Respiratory calls scare me… even after 17 years of doing this.

Maybe it is just that I have seen too many people start out with the complaint of SOB… only to code right in front of me.

Some calls are easy to fix, simply provide them with a neb treatment and watch the SAO2 increase as their respiratory rate comes back to a more normal level.

Pulmonary Edema is a different story… more complex… often a result of a patients worsening heart failure.

We used to simply give high-flow O2, Nitro, Lasix, MS… and drive fast.

Now we have a new tool in our arsenal.

It is amazing to watch someone with copious amounts of pink, frothy sputum… on the edge of respiratory failure… be transformed into someone receiving adequate ventilation… simply by the application of CPAP.

We are intubating a lot fewer Pulmonary Edema patients… and the Boussignac CPAP System is the reason why.
