Paramedics are Paid Extremely Well! | Paramedic Pay | Paramedic (EMT-P) Salary
During my EMS Career, I have worked many places… and have been paid
poorly at times.
Between some of those jobs, I have conducted nation-wide paramedic job searches.
I have to tell you that many, many paramedics across the country are simply not paid very well (in my opinion).
The excuses of “we are not in this for the money”… or “the cost of living is lower here”… etc… get old really fast.
Paramedics are professionals, and should be paid as such.
One shouldn’t have to choose between a great place to work OR a decent salary.
My company’s paramedic pay scale is awesome.
In your first year with our company, you will go from $42k/yr (starting) to $47k/yr (6 month rate) to $51k/yr (one year rate).
That is a $9k/year increase of pay in your first 12-months of employment!
Our complete pay scale is roughly $42k - $71k/year… and is based on a 24 hour on/48 hour off shift schedule.
Note: If you are an experienced Paramedic, we will give you credit for half of your experience, up to our 3 year pay rate. For instance, Starting pay for a brand new Medic is $42k… if you have 1 year of experience, we would start you out at $47k per year (our 6 month rate)… if you have 2 years of experience, you start out at $51k per year (our 1-year rate), etc…
I always like to give out the yearly figures, because the hourly rate of pay doesn’t tell the whole story.
Some companies have a higher hourly rate than us, but only pay overtime after 40hrs in a week. Our company, on the other hand, pays paramedics 8hrs of straight time followed by 16hrs at time-and-a-half for every 24hr shift.
So… if you worked two 24hr shifts with a typical company, you’d receive 40hrs of straight time, and only 8 hours of OT.
With OUR company… working those same two shifts… you’d receive 16hrs of straight time plus a full 32hrs of OT!
If you choose to work a few extra shifts throughout the year, your actual pay range will be even higher.
For a rural ambulance service, our pay is simply unbeatable… and yes, we do have paramedics that volunteer for a few extra shifts each year and are making in excess of $80k/yr.
Simply Amazing!
I have found that you can “love what you do every day”… and still be paid extremely well in the process. Just one reason working here is my “EMS Dream Job”.
